Summary
Discover some of the most beautiful nature in Portugal with the Hike in Arrábida, a full-day adventure starting in Palmela and ending in Setúbal. This challenging trail (15–20 km with nearly 700 m elevation gain) takes you through the beautiful Serra da Arrábida Natural Park, offering panoramic views, forest paths, and a relaxing stop at Albarquel Beach. Perfect for anyone looking for a memorable day hike near Lisbon, the route combines nature, community, and essential hiking safety tips promoted by the Hike Smart project.
The hike has two levels of difficulty:
- ~15 km – ending at the Albarquel Beach (bus to Setúbal available)
- ~20 km – ending at the Setúbal Train Station.

Schedule
08:20 – Meeting at Sete Rios Train Station.
Departure 08:39 (Sete Rios) | Arrival to Palmela – 09:31
10:00 – 11:40 – 1st section of the hike (~5km)
11:40 – 12:00 – 1st break – short rest and hydration
12:00 – 14:15 – Hike to Vigia da Serra de São Luís (~7km)
14:15 – 15:00 – Lunch break and photos at Vigia da Serra de São Luís.
15:00 – 16:40 – Hike down to Albarquel Beach (~5km)
16:40 – 18:40 – Arrival at Albarquel Beach – end of first-level route, short rest – public bus to Setubal available.
18:40 – 19:40 – Continue for full route (~4 km) – optional for those completing the full trail.
